Stay at the Sylvia...and sample the brunch
While there are higher-end hotels in Vancouver, there are not many that exude the character of the Sylvia Hotel.
Located handily on the very shore of English Bay the hotel boasts splendid views and easy-as-pie access to both English Bay Beach and neighbouring Stanley Park. Unmissable during the warmer months thanks to the swaths of ivy which creep up and down the hotel's exterior facade, the Sylvia truly can be described as a Vancouver landmark.
My own memories (having never been a guest) are rather of Sunday brunches at the Sylvia, complete with splendid views out upon the sun-lit trees and sparkling beachfront of English Bay.
This is the sort of hotel that one wouldn't balk at sending a postcard from, for the building is as beautiful as its surroundings.
