Cheers

For my first blog on Vancouver, I would like to say something witty, charming and absolutely too bold for you -- dear reader -- to resist. Unfortunately this will not happen, as i am nervous. You see, Vancouver is a paradise to me, and if i do not write perfectly about this sexy, ever evolving and alluring city --- I will feel a failure. I love this place... from the hotty totty ...

History of Prostitution in Vancouver

Courtesy of Tourism Vancouver

With the release of Daniel Francis' book, Red Light Neon: A History of Vancouver's Sex Trade, he hosted a walking tour of Chinatown and beyond.

The walk started at the Chinatown arch and we made our way through Shanghai Alley, up ender Street, down Richards Street and to the Penthouse nightclub.

Daniel stopped the group every few blocks to give juicy ...

Sophia's Books - not just books

bookstoreSophia Books is located across the street from Harbour Centre on Hastings Street. It's a great little store that sells books in a variety of languages and often has books that other book store chains don't have. They sell interesting calendars, international music, handmade cards, postcards, bookmarks, notebooks and journals. You can find a nice selection of origami paper there ...

Eat like Gwyneth Paltrow! Eat Spelt!

How

Spelt is a yummy whole grain that's high in protein and fiber. I've tried it in the past just on it's own - porridge style. It wasn't very exciting. Then I found out about The Spelt Bakery down on Venables in the Commercial Drive area and was pleasantly surprised by their assortment of baked goods and ...

An Ideal Husband

By Oscar Wilde
Directed by Susan Astley

Presentation House Theatre's production of An Ideal Husband is an absolute blast.  I went to see the show because a wonderful actress I know, Kristina Murphy, was playing Mabel Chiltern.  She lights up the stage, giving an airy personality and light physicality that is delightful.

The cast plays off of each other charmingly and induced big laughs from the sold out theatre.  The costumes were ...

Pancake Day - set your own record!

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is one big excuse to gorge yourself on mountains of sweet or savoury pancakes.
I don't mean the thick, spongy kind that are still a delight to eat scattered with sliced banana, blueberries or maple syrup.

No, I mean the thin, British-style pancakes that can be folded or rolled around oozing fillings of Nutella, cream, golden syrup or fruit.

Of course, purists will stick to plain old lemon ...

AGRO Cafe - Coffee with a Cause!

Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to sit down for a coffee with the founder/owner of AGRO Cafe, a fair trade/organic coffee shop in Yaletown.  Both being graduates of the same faculty at UBC, we chatted a bit about people we both know and other goings on in the faculty, and then proceeded to talk about coffee for over 2 hours!  The reason for ...
