Start and Finish Your Day at Cypress
Forced awake at 7 am on a Saturday to catch the first run at Cypress, I find myself groggy but enthused. At 8:20, the parking lot is already filling up. At the top of the Eagle Express chair, I see why: surrounding mountains caked with snow, freshly fallen flakes twinkling in the sun, riders' smiles brightening up the hill that much more. An easy ride part-way down Panorama green run, I stop at a breath-taking view overlooking Vancouver; I am glad I woke up early.
End of a long week, work-day complete, back up to Cypress I go. Again, I'm not alone on the slopes. Open for nighttime riding, the lamplight-soaked runs are taken full advantage of by children and adults, beginners to advanced. Returning to the hairpin corner on Panorama, the sprawling city below never looked so stunning lit up and twinkling, just like those freshly fallen flakes in the sun.
Cypress Mountain is located on the north shore of Vancouver. It has 38 runs, 7 lifts, and a vertical rise of 1710 feet. If you want to downhill or cross-country ski, snowboard, tube or snowshoe, Cypress is your mountain. It is open daily, 9 am to 10 pm, 8:30-10 on weekends. Day or night, take a trip up. You'll be glad you did.
