Getting There is Half the Fun

Although there are enough delights to experience in Vancouver to keep travellers busy for weeks, many visitors want to include overnight trips to areas like the Sunshine Coast or Victoria (B.C.'s capital city) in their itineraries. With half a dozen scenic Gulf Islands also highly worthy of exploring, it's hard to imagine a trip to Vancouver without taking the time to enjoy a few side trips. Regardless of which trip you might choose each of these travel options will share something in common: a trip aboard a member of the marine fleet of B.C. Ferries.

B.C. Ferry Services provides daily service to 47 ports of call on 25 routes throughout coastal British Columbia. Crossing times between Vancouver Island and B.C.'s Lower Mainland range from about 90 minutes to two hours depending on which ferry route you take. Although the ferries themselves have excellent services and plenty of dining options on-board, it's the scenery along the way that is B.C. Ferries' best feature. When travelling to Victoria and Vancouver Island from Vancouver, you are accompanied by deep blue seas, rugged coastlines, lush forests, plenty of marine life and wildlife, and an archipelago of mountainous islands.

If you prefer to view the scenery from 5,000 feet above, there are options for travel between Vancouver and Victoria including sea planes and "Helijet" passenger helicopters.

No matter what mode of transportation you choose, you will have a wonderful travel experience en route to the myriad destinations available on B.C.'s West Coast.
