Spirit of BC Week - Come Celebrate in Maple Ridge, British Columbia


A celebration of our province and its unique communites.  Spirit of BC Week is being held this year between February 9-17, 2007 with celebrations in all cities.  Here is how you can come and celebrate with Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows:

On February 10th there are 2 venues to go and join a Family Spitit Skate

 Family Spirit Skate

  • 6:45 pm - 8:15 pm
    Free public skating and interactive games at Ridge Meadows Arena. There will be a free curling demonstration at Golden Ears Winter Club.
  • Family Free Skate1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
    Join us for a Family Free Skate at Planet Ice Arena, 23588 - 105 Avenue. A brief ceremony and raising of the Spirit of BC Flag will start off the week's events at each location. The family skate includes a variety of interactive games for all ages.
  • February 11th

    Curling Rocks - Open House

    11:00 am - 2:00 pm
    The whole family is invited to visit the Golden Ears Curling Club to find out what the club and curling has to offer for those from ages 10 to 90. There will be a brief introduction to the game and then some basic curling instruction on the ice. A mini fun spiel will follow with everyone invited to participate.

    February 12th

    11:00 am - 11:30 am
    Join us for an author reading with Sheri Radford. Penelope and the Humongous Burp was named a Blue Sprice Honor Book in 2006. It was also semi-finalist in the 2005 Independent Book Publishers award. Penelope and the Monsters has been nominated for the 2007 Blue Spruce Award and the 2006-2007 Chocolate Lily Award.     February 14th

    Read-a-thon

    9:00 am - 5:00 pm
    It is 162km to Whistler from Maple Ridge and 154 km from Pitt Meadows. How many times can we get to Whistler and back in reading minutes? Donate your in-library reading minutes throughout the day to the Read-a-thon and have your name entered for a prize. Join us at the Maple Ridge Library, 22470 Dewdney Trunk Road and the Pitt Meadows Library, 12047 Harris Road.

    February 17th

    Family Trail Walk

    12:00 pm - 8:00 pm
    This walk will be accessible to everyone, buses will be shuttling people between the meeting areas (Pitt Meadows Family Rec Centre; Maple Ridge Leisure Centre) and the trail. On the bus, participants will learn about the local parks. Refreshments (bottled water and healthy snack) will be provided.
