Gasthaus on the Lake, Peachland
I heard about the Gasthaus well before I moved to Kelowna. It was legendary in Western Canada for it's incredible food, but even more so for it's medieval feasts. [Someone has loving compiled a photo montage of their medieval feast here]. So when I was offered a ride to Peachland, a breathtaking fifteen minute drive from Westbank, I jumped at the chance to take a peek at this fine dining establishment. [Note: there is also a bus that runs from Kelowna and Westbank to Peachland several times a day.]
The Gasthaus [directions] was even more than it had been made out to be, surprisingly. Although I never ventured inside the fine dining restaurant next door, I was able to partake of one of the best lake views I've ever encountered while parked comfortably in their outdoor seating area of the adjoining pub next door.
The food was equally stunning. [menu, opens to a PDF file] I only had a "crisp chicken" burger ala pub fare, but it was probably the juiciest, most flavorful piece of chicken I've ever partaken of. My friends' veal cutlet was equally superb, as was the comprehensive beer menu and lovely staff.
I'd highly recommend a visit to the Gasthaus while in Kelowna one evening, if nothing more than to listen to some live music and sit on the patio with a German beer while watching the Okanagan Lake ripple a couple of meters away.
