Ice Skating, William Hawrelak Park, Edmonton

Ice Skating Hawrelak

Winter in Alberta can be a lots of fun for those who love to ski, snowboard, cross country ski and snowmobile.  All of these activities though can be costly, especially if you have children that you need to equip too.

Ice-skating is fun, cost efficient, is an activity for all ages and is a great way to entertain the whole family and take in some of that fresh winter air!

There are many venues in and around the city of Edmonton where you can practice this fun pastime, many within a short driving distance.

William Hawrelak Park, 9930 Groat Road, is named after William Hawrelak, who was mayor of Edmonton for three terms (1952-1959, 1964-1965 and 1975.)  The park is one of the most accessible for ice-skating and also benefits from having skate rentals on site.  If you don't want to purchase skates for all the family just yet, you can rent for only $4 per pair.

Fun in the Park

The rink is open from 11am until 10 pm daily, is partially floodlit during the evenings and has a Skate Pavilion on site.   The Pavilion has lockers for valuables, washrooms and also offers skate sharpening as well as rentals.

For more information on current ice conditions and the park check the City of Edmonton website or call Community Services General Information line (780) 496-4999

Other places in the city where you can ice skate include; Victoria Park Oval, City Hall and Rundle Park.
