Getting to know your city with the Edmonton Outdoor Club

| There are many ways to settle and discover more about a place when you are a new resident or visitor. Odds are though that unless you already know people in the area or immediately find good pals in your place of work, you are going to find getting to know your city, somewhat slow going. There are ways around this of course and becoming a member of the Edmonton Outdoor Club is one of the best out there!
Free to join, the volunteer run club is still in its infancy having been initiated in April 2006 and was based on a similar successful club in Calgary, Alberta. With an obvious emphasis on “Outdoor” activities, the club hosts a wide range of events for all abilities and fitness levels. The extensive list of activities includes hiking, canoeing, cycling, camping, ice-skating, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, tobogganing and geocaching to name but a few. As well as outdoor activities, there are other pursuits that traditionally take place indoors such as roller skating, curling and archery. If this sounds a little like too much exertion, thrown in for good measure the less active amongst us will be happy to find monthly authentic meals, wine tasting, movies, brunches and other socials. With all this on offer, its not surprising that joining a club such as this can make you feel at home in Edmonton in very little time and also help you enjoy the experience! |
