KO Boxing Presents: Winter Meltdown in Edmonton

WBC World Champion, Jelena Mrdjenovich (18-2-0, 11KO) will be stepping into the ring to face Belinda “Brown Sugar” Laracuente (22-16-3, 9KO) from the Bronx, NY, in a match scheduled for 8 rounds.
In November 2006, Jelena lost a controversial decision to New York’s Ann-Marie Saccurato for the interim WBC 135lb title. Laracuente is the only boxer who has defeated Saccurato when they squared off in August of 2005.
In commenting on the fight, Mrdjenovich stated that “you are always concerned when you are fighting someone who beat the woman who just defeated you”.
According to Glen Carriere of K.O. Boxing Canada, “this is a classic match up. Here we have Jelena taking on Belinda who handed Saccurato her only defeat. You couldn’t ask for a better storyline than this.”
In addition to the Mrdjenovich – Laracuente fight, Winter Meltdown will feature newly crowned Canadian Cruiserweight Champion, Ryan Henney of Saskatoon taking on undefeated southpaw Kevin Reynolds of Vancouver. An Edmonton favourite, Kris Andrews, the Western Canadian Middleweight Champion will also be featured in an 8 rounder.
