Buchanan's - Bloody rare
On a fateful Sunday night, I journeyed with some friends to Buchanan’s located on 738-3 Avenue SW. Buoyed by John Gilchrist’s review of the chophouse and hoping for a classier environment than our last Gilchrist adventure to Palomino, we walked in with optimism. For a restaurant that’s situated so close to the downtown life, Buchanan’s offers a relief from the normal fast-food joint and over-franchised restaurants common to the area.
I’d love to say that my entire experience at Buchanan’s was an absolute dream, but it wasn’t. Ordering their three course dinner special for $39.00 seemed to be an extremely reasonable price for an appetizer, main meal and desert, however, the steak was too rare and the side dishes were far too generic. The desert, I had hoped would be the savior of the entire meal, who could go wrong with peach and blueberry mousse? Only problem, the mousse seemed to be held together by a large amount of gelatin. Instead of a creamy mousse texture, I was faced with a jello-like substance with small undistinguishable bits of fruit.
Although Buchanan’s was an alright experience, it seemed to me to be a little overpriced for an average caliber of food.
