Hi-Fi flies high
Searching for a club that was more than just a meat-market that played old-school funky tunes seemed to be quite a challenge in Calgary, until I stumbled upon the hidden gem known as the Hi-Fi Club. Located on 219 & 10th Ave. SW, they blast tunes from all eras including the oldie-goldies of Michael Jackson, James Brown and Aretha Franklin up to the modern beats of Mylo, Tiga and Gnarls Barkley.
The Hi-Fi promises a good time for everyone with their kitschy decorations and the ever-entertaining go-go dancers. Dimly lit by plastic chandeliers and tealights on every table, the atmosphere is relaxed and the tone is casual funk. Drinks are definitely affordable at roughly $4.50 for hi-balls and about $7.00 for a beer and specials like double hi-balls for $7.00 are available pretty often.
Entertaining everyone from the artsy crowd to the hard-core clubbers, both sexes are bound to have an absolute blast. Although I can’t confidently say that guys will get the meat market available at clubs like The Whiskey, Tantra, Mynt or The Den, Hi-Fi offers a refreshing alternative to the normal night-club life.
Every night offers a different genre of music, but Flashlight Fridays are by far the favorite among the young Calgarians. A note to those who plan on going, go before the clock strikes 11:00 or you’re in for a very long line.
