Can't get no satisfaction? The Insider's guide to gettin' some!

Maybe you haven't been in exactly the same situation, but see if this rings a bell for you.

A few months back, I had to attend a convention. As usual, organizers held it in well-known tourist destination, at a fairly prestigious hotel. There's always time for fun and games when you're at these things, so when the opportunity arises, it's fun to bring your sweetie with you.

Since it was one of ...

Rejoice, fellow travellers. Whether you're booking that room for business, pleasure, or because the alternative is crashing on your folks' (or --shudder--the in-laws!) hide-a-bed, someone is finally on your side.

Me.

Lodging is an industry, just like any other industry. And like any other industry, there's a whole industry built up around the actual buildings that you stay in. Everything from linen manufacturers and cleaning supply suppliers to professional associations and lobbyists. I'm not attached ...

Two Hot Holidays

Saint Lucia

Yesterday we took a look at the Ice Hotel in Quebec, Canada so today I thought I would jump all the way to the other end of the spectrum. Frankly not everyone wants to spend their winter holiday in a giant snow fort so why not take a look at one of the most beautiful places on the planet – ...

Walking in a winter wonderland

I woke up this morning to lots of snow. I'm not talking about a nice gentle sprinkling of snow. I'm talking 10 minutes of car snow removal this morning, and an extra 20 minutes in traffic snow.

That is a lot of snow.

So to celebrate we are going check out my favorite place to go snowboarding - Banff.

If you are looking for a ...

Hotel Employees don't get enough credit

Hotel employees work long hours for very little pay and even less credit. Talk to ten people and you will probably find at least five who have a negative hotel story. The problem with people is we tend to remember the negative and forget the good things. In fact, there are even websites devoted to painting the picture of hotel horrors.

A majority of these complaints are very valid and should be taken seriously. Honestly though, sometimes people complain for the wrong reason and blame employees for something they have absolutely no control over. A good example of this is construction on the streets outside the hotel ruining a vacation. Yes that would be bad, but you cannot necessarily blame the hotel and its staff because they do not control when a city decides to fix a street.

Stay one night, pay with...sheep?

I've always had a dream of living a life of trading goods for services and vice versa. I came close for about 6 months when I had friends working all over the city and I got free pizza, slurpees, and movie rentals. In the end though living off of slurpees and pizza may sound tasty, but really doesn't work in the staying healthy/alive department.

Then I heard about Bill Ward, a hotel ...
