Cheap Denver Hotels

Cheap Denver hotels are no longer available after the City of Denver imposed their new lodging taxes in 2006. The City of Denver now charges a 10.75% lodging tax on top of any hotel room fees paid, and the hotel is required to collect extra taxes for luxuries like in-room entertainment (television), in-room communications (telephone), and in-room food services like those little packages of instant coffee that once sat on the nightstands.

There is really no way to find any cheap Denver hotels or alternative accommodations while these high city-fee room taxes are required. The City of Denver lodging tax covers all forms of overnight rentals:

"...hotel, apartment hotel, lodging house, motor house, motor hotel, guest house, guest ranch, resort, mobile home, auto camp, trailer court or park."

A new problem with low-cost or cheap Denver hotels has come to light after the city lodging tax was imposed. Inexpensive hotel rooms traditionally house those without funding to acquire nicer accommodations. With costs so high now, groups of people are pooling funds to rent one room, which puts large wear-and-tear issues on furnishings, and tends to make the lesser priced hotels feel and act more like flop-houses.

For travelers trying to find cheap Denver hotels, a suggestion might be to look in the small towns around Denver for clean reasonably priced rooms first. Today, it is easy to find long lists of complaints about cheap Denver hotels on the internet. By choosing hotel accommodations away from these problem areas, travelers can save money and have a better nights sleep.
