Singapore on the Non-Smoking bandwagon

The Royal Plaza Hotel will become Singapore's first fully smoke-free hotel when it reopens in January. This smoking ban will apply to both guests and staff, but management at the Royal Plaza Hotel isn’t turning their backs on smokers completely. Guests who have trouble dealing with the smoke free environment can get a nicotine patch and nicotine gum, which will be supplied by the hotel.

The smoking ban in Singapore covers 30 categories of public areas at present time. Theses include shopping centers, underground walkways and restaurants. By July 2007 the ban will extend to 900 bars and clubs.

I'm glad to see more and more places that ban smoking in public areas. It proves that not everyone still thinks smoking is 'cool'.
