Bed Jumping at the Asakusa View Hotel, Tokyo
The history of sake is not well documented and there are multiple theories on how it was discovered. One theory traces sake brewing back to 3rd century Japan with the advent of wet rice cultivation. The first sake was called “kuchikami no sake”, or “chewing-in-the-mouth sake,” and was made by people chewing rice, chestnuts, millet, and acorns and spitting the mixture into a tub.
In western cultures, we might put the same emphasis that the Japanese put on sake, on a Martini or a glass of wine.
East or west, we all have our peculiar ways of preparing our drinks of choice. We shake or stir martinis to chill the alcohol and fuse the flavours. We swirl wine to release the aromatic bouquet.
And in Japan, we bounce on the bed with a bottle of sake as part of the ancient Japanese tradition of sake presentation while bed levitating!
