Sydney: Attention adrenaline junkies - sky diving!
I must confess that I'd rather be home with a pencil stuck in my eye than do a sky dive over a beach. I'm much happier
deep in the ocean. However, I can understand the appeal and why some of my not-so-young men friends did it a few months ago. Just to prove they still had it. And they did!
SkyDive the Beach is located at North Beach, Wollongong, about 1.5 hours south of Sydney down the F6 freeway. Or take the train and get the free bus transfer from North Wollongong Station.
After some paperwork and instructions, you're off, climbing high in a small plane for a scenic 14,000 foot view of the Sydney coastline. Then you leap out, strapped to the front of a burly instructor, and freefall for 60 (terrifying) seconds before floating gently down. The beach is packed with restaurants, cafes and picnic areas.
Tandem dive for 1-4 people (weekends) $320pp, $275pp (weekdays). Minimum age 14. It's cheaper the more people who jump and you can also book photos and a DVD to capture the glory. Nothing more attractive than my friend Paul with his face looking like a bucket of water.
