The Observatory Hotel - Take a dip in their magical pool
Conde Nast Traveller UK said of this 5-star establishment: "Effortlessly cool and unpretentious. Seriously slick service. Everyone is made to feel like they exist over and above everyone else".
Located near the harbour in the historic Rocks area, The Observatory Hotel is also handy to the CBD. This is the kind of hotel where staff remember your name. The standout swimming pool is not to be missed. Its curved dome ceiling is made of thousands of twinkling ‘stars' resembling the vastness of the Southern hemisphere sky.
Rooms are spacious and well appointed, although a bit ‘Holly Hobby' for my liking. The marble bathrooms luxurious, with large baths, heated towel racks and double-vanities. There are 78 deluxe rooms, 9 Junior Suites, 12 Executive Suites and the Observatory Suite. There are four ground-floor rooms for disabled guests and the second floor is non-smoking.
The Observatory's Galileo Restaurant has a mighty reputation for fine French cuisine with a touch of Japanese and the elegant Globe Bar is a relaxing place to meet for lunch, afternoon tea (freshly baked scones and cream) or cocktails and a light-bite. The Observatory Day Spa is a pampering experience and a perfect place to unwind. Choose from a wide range of treatments using La Prairie and Payot skin care products.
Anyone for tennis? The hotel has access to a tennis court, the only one in the CBD. There's also the complimentary Health and Leisure Club with gym, pool, sauna and steam rooms. A complimentary limousine drop-off is available to all in-house guests between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 am, Monday to Friday, from The Observatory Hotel to anywhere within the central business district.
