Cruising Views

There is one bar on Circular Quay which I have come to fancy. This bar has excellent views of the Opera House, Circular Quay and on a nice late afternoon, views of Sydney Harbour.

This bar would be Cruise Bar, one of my favourite bars in Sydney. The DJ plays nice mixes of cool chill-out house, the wine menu is extensive, the cocktails very good and a wide selection of beers, from Heineken to Belgian beer. The bar menu is rather limited but we come for the drinks, not so much the food.

The indoor bar is funky, with backlight walls, giving the bar a background with a multitude of colours. The views from the bar lead to an unobstructed view of the Opera House and East Circular Quay. Looking towards the city, you get a magnificent view of the CBD.

Cruise Bar is located in the Overseas Passenger Terminal, just a stones throw away from the rocks and a short stroll away from the Museum of Contemporary Art and Circular Quay Ferry Terminal. Up the stairs from the main bar lies Cru Lounge, a cocktail lounge with an outdoor terrace and on the first floor, a restaurant.

The toilets are rather interesting. Urinals have television screens, showing adverts, unluckily. There are only very dew toilets I have been to with television screens in them.

In fact, in the last episode of Alias Season 5, you get a short glimpse of Cruise Bar as she scales down the Museum of Modern Art. The views of the Opera House and CBD seen in the episode are exactly like that you get when sitting outside. If you’re lucky, you might even see a few performances up on the rooftop of the MOMA. Last week, there was a fire-dancer. Don’t expect to see Sydney Bristow anytime soon.

However, when a cruise ship happens to dock at the terminal, the outdoor seating area is closed off and the only view you get would be the ship. Cheers!
