Melbourne Water Treatment Tour

Recent debates over fresh water shortages and future availablity draw attention to an increased public interest has developed in Melbourne water systems.  Tourists and locals seek to learn more.  You have more opportunities to learn about the history of water capturing and usage than meet the eye.

The Water Discovery Centre in Werribee is one example.  This reveals where local drinking water originates.  Its set up like a museum with displays and interactive games.  You can learn about the infrastructure beneath the city.  You can also discover the extent to which local water recycled. Not everyone has a water tank for their personal home.  Water recycling is far more extensive, though perhaps not as comprehensive as people would like.  You can feel free to submit suggestions.  Storm rainwater is captured through a variety of means.

Take a guided tour of the water cycle story from the catchments to the coast and learn how we're helping to create a sustainable future.  Water based activities can be incorporated to make your visit a full day excursion. This tour can include visits to sewer systems, the amphibian research centre, and water supply reservoirs in the area.

Detailed tours for larger groups of this venue and water history-related others in the area range between $5.00 to $10.00 per person, depending on the activities and size of group.  A base fee of $130 applies for each booking. This would be suitable for sport teams in town with spare time, or other groups of strangers that can be organized through the Water Treatment Centre office and also other venues throughout the city.

The Water Treatment Centre is open from 10.00am to 4.00 pm most days.  Larger groups can arrange for additional hours and on-site guides.
