Melbourne Aquarium
In life, you never know who you're going to meet. You never know how these people may introduce you to something that enriches your life or, remind you of very meaningful things you had forgotten or put to the side.
While I was involved in the 2007 International Australian Airshow, one of my peers told me he was a diver at the Melbourne Aquarium. Now, back in 2000, while in Chile, I took an introductory diving course. This kind of activity has long had appeal. I simply haven't known too many people who were divers, so I told myself I would get back to it. Imagine my surprise to meet someone who reminded me of this interest. He encouraged me to discover another of Melbourne's wonders.
The Melbourne Aquarium is open daily from 9:30am to 6pm. You might ask yourself what you can do there. Aside from a functions area and the unusual gift shops, you can do more than stop by and have a snack. Don't underestimate the diversity of specimens you can watch through the glass water tanks.
The tropical fish and corals remind you of the miracles that live underneath the surface of the oceans. How often do you think about the variety of these creatures? You will find lots of reading material to teach you about fish and other creatures. The colors and diversity will dazzle and amaze you. Open your mind.
At specific times of day, you can see the divers go into the tanks and feed the miraculous creatures. Could you imagine ever doing that yourself? This would make unusual job shadowing, would it not?
The newest attraction enables visitors to explore the Creepy Caves, and encounter some of the world's largest crabs. See Bird Eating Spiders, blood-sucking leeches, poisonous scorpions, Coconut Crabs and Giant Spider Crabs. They may cause you to shudder or at least trigger goose bumps on your arms.
Prices of entry vary. You can go with your family or friends. This is also a popular fieldtrip venue. It also has wheelchair access.
