Yarra Trail Bike Path
Melbourne is very much a bicycle-friendly city. You will find a number of places to rent bicycles by the hour, half day and full day which would permit you to explore different scenic trails. Tourist bureaus (ex. Flinders Station) have city bike tour maps and details about where to find the closest rental shops to your destination. Set out for an adventure!
One of the truly peaceful and memorable paths to cycle is the bike path along the Yarra River. Most cyclists usually begin at the Southbank. This 38 kilometre path isn't hilly. It shows you memorable Melbourne vantage points as it winds its way toward the north-eastern suburb of Eltham. As you follow the winding Yarra River through inner urban areas and parks, you can choose to stop in gardens, take photos of historic homes and schools, be awed by native bushland and compare old to new city perspectives.
The path surface itself changes from asphalt, to concrete and gravel. Past visitors agree the section of road wouldn't threaten beginner cyclists or bore even intermediate level cyclists. You can cover any length of the path. Stop whenever you desire. Its open 24hrs. Every section offers sights worth seeing. Cafes and refreshments are found all along the way. Its not uncommon for cyclists to bring along a knapsack picnic and stop to admire nature in a local grassy space. Enjoy!
