Law Week in Melbourne
To get in the mood for Melbourne Law Week 2007, May 13-19, discover your options on the new City Tourist Shuttle. It will help you locate historic libraries and law courts, if this is your style. Daily schedules mean buses circulate every 15–20 minutes between 10am to 4pm. What is Law Week all about? Pick up your free tour booklet from Information Victoria 505 Lt Collins St. This pamphlet covers the art and architecture of the Children's, County, Federal and Magistrates' Courts and you can proceed to tour in your own time on a leisure walking tour. This is simply a taste of what city students and legal professionals have to offer. You can take in mock trials, oral debates, even inspirational evenings celebrating the achievements of women lawyers hosted by Victorian Women Lawyers and Women Barristers association.
Exhibition of artwork by Network Ten Court Artist, Glenda Brigham, surveys a number of well-known Court Cases and offers a glimpse into the personal responses of defendants on Trial or at some stage in the legal process of their case. As cameras are forbidden in Court these works were drawn on-site by observing artists. The works were created in the Magistrates Court, County Court or Supreme Court. Venue Waldron Hall, County Court of Victoria 250 William St Melb and Lonsdale St. Throughout the week, at designated times, Courtroom Artists will be available to talk on their profession and accomplishments.
